Creating a new Admin account on Mac OS X without an OS X CD.
This walk through works for OS 10.6 - older OS X versions will vary.

Apple does not provide this information, you have to scour the Internet to find various instructions in forums.
Some forums have people posting that you can delete your old user profile, after creating your new one, since you don't have access to it.

THAT is incorrect, just reset your password as the instructions below explains
and you can access your old applications, documents and files!

If you forget your Mac admin password, or if you were not the original owner of your Mac,
and you upgrade to a new version of Mac OS X (This happened to me) - Lion in my case, you may lose your old password.

You will need to enter terminal and create a new admin account by following the directions below:

1. Turn on or reboot your computer.
2. Hold apple key + s key down after you hear the chime. (command + s on newer Macs)
3. When you get to the terminal prompt enter in the commands below to create a new admin account. (hitting return after each line):

mount -uw /
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
shutdown -h now

4. After rebooting you will have a new admin account.
You will be prompted to create a new password for your new admin user account.
Create password and login.
Once you login, you will not see your old documents and applications.

5. To regain your old apps and documents, files etc, you will need to go to:
Apple Menu / System Preferences, and open Users and Groups prefs.

6. Click the lock to make changes, then click your old username and click "Change Password".
Enter your Current password (That you just created), then enter your new password
(that you are now creating), confirm password.
You can edit the password hint here also, mine had a previous user's hint that meant nothing to me.
7. Reboot or switch users, login with your old account and the newly created password.

8. You now have access to your old files!

Windows 7 System Diagnostic Report

You can run the Windows 7 System Diagnostic Report from the Advanced Tools section of the Performance Information and Tools app in the Control Panel.

You can also run it by typing the following command in the Start menu’s Search box.

perfmon /report

Then press the Enter key.

Respond to UAC - are you sure you want to run prompts.

Within System Diagnostic you will be prompted that the System Diagnostics report will be collecting data for 60 seconds - during this time - launch the program, process, or hardware that causes errors / crashes, so System Diagnostics will include your error messages and information or errors that may be helpful in searching out the source and solution of the problem.

When the report is complete, the results appear in the Resource and Performance Monitor window.

The links in the related area often do not work, but the results in the Symptom link section often has good information that can be helpful information for you to search out solutions on the Internet.

Error:
This computer cannot connect to the remote computer. Remote desktop disconnected.

1) Make sure the computer is connected to the Internet
2) Check you Firewall for any changes.

This is usually a Firewall issue - If your AntiVirus / Firewall Program needs updating and you cannot configure your Firewall, you will need to update your AV / Network Security program subscription in order to enable changing the settings, or install a different Antivirus / Network Security program.

Enable audio redirection on Windows Terminal Server 2008

How to install an audio device in WS2008 running in Hyper-V when you see an X at the bottom of the desktop, and when clicking on the icon you are prompted that no sound devices are installed.

Enable audio redirection on RDP-Tcp properties:

1. Open Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Terminal Services;
2. Open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration:

BlackBerry Activation Troubleshooting

I had much of the info below, but not all of it and as concisely as below.
EA = Enterprise Activation
EA is only accessible if your administrator has provided an E-Mail account on an Exchange Server (Possibly other servers but largely Exchange) AND - You have BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) activated from your carrier - which you must pay an extra fee for that service.

The basic EA troubleshooting would involve a couple of check points.

1. Add user to BlackBerry Manager

- Check in the application log (hit F5 or Refresh if required) to see messages like
"User Added to BES" (successfully added user to BlackBerry Enterprise Server and will monitor users mailbox)
"1 user failed to initialize"
(you will be unable to activate that user if this message shows up)

- This ensures proper permissions set for EA to complete and the mailbox advise session is established

2. Check user is in sufficient wireless coverage

- Due to different "Themes" developed for BlackBerry devices, reading the number of Bars available is sometimes not accurate, check the "Options - Status" menu for signal strength, anything below

-90dbm (by this I mean -99dbm is worse signal strength as compared to -90dbm) can cause issues during Enterprise Activation

3. Check for the ETP.dat message in users inbox (if it's arriving there is it being modified by a spam filter/AVirus software)

- If that etp.dat message is not arriving, as recommended above in the thread, try and activating with a hotmail/google mail/yahoo email address to check if the etp.dat email arrives into those email
address

- This step ensures device provisioning from your wireless carrier and sufficient wireless coverage at least to start the EA
(if signal strength fluctuates and constantly drops during EA, the
process will stop at different points)

4. Assuming the above 3 criterion are met, I would recommend right clicking choosing "Reload User", which forces a mailbox rescan for the user, during which the etp.dat message should be picked up
to kick start the EA process

5. If the etp.dat email message is sitting in the mailbox and not being picked up, it would be BlackBerry Enterprise Server related

6. If this message never ends up in the mailbox, it could be either due to provisioning or being blocked/lost in transition which would have nothing to do with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

7. One of the other troubleshooting steps performed from an administrators end to verify if the etp.dat email message is actually arriving and being picked up is as follows
- Remove User from BlackBerry Manager
- Ask user to activate from BlackBerry device with their email address and a simple password eg: 'a'
- Wait for the etp.dat to arrive in their mailbox, since the user does not exist on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server there is no reason this email should not be in the "Inbox"
- Please ensure this email does not end up in a different folder like "Junk Mail" since the email header at this point is already modified by your mail/spam filters for BlackBerry Server to

realize this is the activation email

- If the message arrives, at this point you can go ahead and add the user to the BlackBerry Manager, set their EA password to what they used to start EA from their device, in this case lower case

'a' was our example, and the etp.dat message should be picked up (assuming permissions are set properly please refer to step 1 to verify you see a response in the application log after adding user
to BlackBerry Manager)

Setup:
Latest iTunes Software and iPod" (or iPhone) "update"
My iTunes music was on a removable USB 250GB drive

Steps:
1. Copied iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Music Library.xml and iPod Games Library from MyDocuments\My Music\iTunes to username\Music\iTunes on my Mac
2. Removed the .itl extension from the iTunes Library file
3. At this point you have two options (either leave the music on the removable drive or move it to a folder in the new Mac) I decided to move it to a folder on my new iMac
4. Open iTunes
5. iTunes should open and you should be seeing your library, but with all the songs with the ! sign next to them. This means that iTunes cannot find those songs in the folder they are supposed to be (your PC's path were they were before you moved them). So you need to go to iPod Preferences and under the Advance tab modified the Library location so that it points to the folder where you placed the files on your Mac
6. iTunes will now show a "Updating Library" message while it looks for and finds all your music in it's new folder

At this point I was wondering how should I move my games or if the where already moved along with my music. I looked for answers but found none, so I went ahead and plugged my iPod to my Mac

To my surprise, iTunes gave me a message indicating that there were purchased songs on my iPod that were not on my Library and asked me if I wanted to copy them to my iMac. I replied Yes and everything worked OK: music and games...

Before you try the steps above, you may want to make sure you have your music organized as the site below suggests.

If you get a fatal error during the boot up after an SP1 update try the following. Took me forever to get this to work… Probably should save this, and Ron you can put it on your blog :) = [Done :)]

This method works without Safe Mode, without backups, without System Restore, without DISM, and without a Windows 7 DVD repair disc.
INSTRUCTIONS:

01. Reboot your computer while it’s starting up.
02. When your computer starts up again, choose the option “Launch Startup Repair”

03. When the Startup repair starts, click cancel.
04. After you click cancel it will show a box. Click “Don’t Send”

14. Delete the following text (yours will be a little different):

Your PC might not have all 3 sections of code (, , ). Just make sure you delete section “Checkpoint” and whatever other sections have “000000000000000.cdf-ms”. They will be right next to eachother.
15. Save the file, close notepad, close command prompt, restart your computer.
Once your computer starts up, do a normal startup (it may stall for 5-10 minutes at the “starting windows” screen, but leave it going) and the Service Pack will install some more stuff and restart a few times and then everything should be working! For some people, it reverts everything and cancels the service pack installation. For other people, the service pack installation completes. Either result is fine.

Firefox BookMarks- Backup and Restore

I recently lost my bookmarks for Firefox fortunately they are easy to restore.
You may want to back them up and save on a CD, DVD thumbdrive, other computer etc.

Firefox automatically backs up your Bookmarks but you can back them up manually to wherever you want on your computer by going to:

Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup - and choose Backup.
Browse to your documents or wherever you would like them to be backed up.

To restore them, go through the same procedure but instead of selecting backup, choose
restore, and select the date you want them restored from.

Firefox saves the file as a .json file which is the default format that Firefox uses.
You can also export them as HTML which will allow you to import them into another browser, also usable through Firefox if you prefer.

Try the following:

That should fix it, unless your administrator moved your account to a new server. But that would be rare.

rare, makes me think of steak, but I like mine between only slightly rare to well done - but not burnt - but I will take a burnt one if you are grilling!

Virtuozzo - Change Mac Address - update license - Print IT

Changing a license for your program to match your MAC address that the license was purchased for when the vendor will not help you unless you buy product support AND upgrade your software.

Note*
Hey, this is a Network MAC, don't forget to make sure people log off the server.

On the Virtuozzo server, from a command line enter the command below and your Virtual Environment's ID (VEID):

example: vzctl set VEID --mac 00-AA-BB-CC-DD-EE --save

If your ID for VPS-XXX is 1300 (Enter the actual VPS ID) as in example below:
vzctl set 1300 --mac 00-AA-BB-CC-DD-EE --save

Then go to your program, let's say PrintIT, and enter the current MAC address and your current license #.

License Key (examples only - they do not reflect the actual licenses or MAC addresses):

WIndows User Profile corruption - Windows 2008 Server, Vista, Windows 7

Windows 2008 user profile got corrupted by perhaps a network problem or unplanned server reboot.

The issue can happen on Vista and Windows 7 as well, you can find the same registry "profilelist" file structure.

When the user attempted to login he was prompted that the profile was bad - the server was inaccessible to his account.
The profile list is in the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\

The issue is that there are two SID files of the same name.
One with a .bak extension and one without.

The one without the extension, pointed to:
C:\Users\temp
The .bak SID, pointed to the original user profile, example below:
c:\users\username

example:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-x-xx-xxxxxx...-xxx.bak

The temp profile only had 3 keys as opposed to the 7 keys the former profile had - and still has after removing the .bak extension.
* The final step is to change the state property of the SID set to Zero.

This can happen on Vista and Windows 7 as well!

You can prevent your computer from being inaccessible by creating a second user on the computer in Control Panel > Users, so that you can log in with a good user profile, then edit the other profile.
The issue is rare, and you may never need it - good prevention on the outside chance that you run into this issue.

Outlook 2010 settings are hidden and not as obvious as previous versions of Outlook. Outlook 2007 and earlier you would Export your E-Mail by going to File > Import / Export > then choose from there,
Export as Personal File... It just made sense.

In Outlook 2010 you must go to:

This is for installing Printer Drivers (not adding printers through the Add Printer Wizard) on a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server.

Go to: Server Manager
(key it in from the Search Box if you don't know how to access it, or it is not set to come up when you log into the server)

Go to Roles > Print Management > Print Servers
Then choose the Computer Name TS24 etc.

Repairing corrupted Windows Files SFC - System File Checker

If your Windows Vista® or Windows 7® system files become corrupted and reports errors, you can run the System File Checker Scan to repair the files.

You can run System File Checker on Windows XP, but will not need to run at an elevated command prompt, also instead of Keying in cmd in the Search Box, you will Click Start > Run, then enter cmd.

In order to run the System File Checker and have it to repair the errors, run this at an elevated command prompt.

sfc /scannow

be sure and enter a space between the forward slash and the s in scannow.

To get to the elevated command prompt type in cmd or command in the search box near the bottom of your screen when you click on the Windows® Orb, commonly referred to as the Start Menu.
When you see the cmd, in the search results, right click it and choose Run as Administrator.

If System File Checker cannot repair the file, you can read the log file to find the faulting files.

In order to read the log file to find the faulting files, run the command below.

findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

This will show you the corrupt files that it found
Make sure you go to the directory

%windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

when its done to see the results.

In order to read the .txt file in Vista or Seven, you will need to run Notepad as administrator by going to accessories, then right clicking it and choosing run as administrator.

The log will tell you which files are corrupt, it will not repair them.

To repair the files you would need to extract and copy a good version of the file from the installation disk or run a repair install of Windows.
The repair install would be more apt to correct the problems as it will clean all of the Windows directories and components.
When you put your Windows install media in your CD or DVD drive and restart your computer, you will be prompted if you want to install Windows, you will lose your files if you do that, or perform a repair install, you would want to run the repair install.

You could choose to do a full re-install of Windows® if you have backed up your data and have your hardware drivers or know where to get them.

*Notes:

* Some computers have restore partitions so you may be able to re-install Windows by running a full system restore install.
Be sure and research online to see if your computer has a repair partition. Your computer manufacturer's website would have that information.

* You should back up of your files in case something goes wrong.

* If your computer does not boot to the CD when rebooting with CD or DVD in the proper drive, you may need to edit your BIOS settings and choose the CD or DVD drive as your top level boot drive.

If you have 2 or more computers and want the doc or whatever file, on both, and too large for your E-Mail or you don't want to bog the E-Mail down when you open it - this is a useful way to share files.

I will not use a free peer to peer file sharing site as I have seen to much malware, computer viruses etc. People who indiscriminately share files out, though many are good people - there are a number who share out malware, and still others who have infected machines who may not yet know it.
Many people use such sites - up to you - but not for me.

No Script - makes browsing safer - is a bit of a hassle if you go to many websites - all you have to do, it click options at the bottom right - then allow the site.
This may not be for everyone - but lets you control what websites run (regarding scripts - which some sites use for installing malware)

Replacing your brass / copper yard faucets

First, why I created this post. I was on a Forum at TechGuy.org and I was going to reply to a post BUT I did not notice that the post had been marked as solved.
I did not scroll to the bottom to see that I was not on the last page of the post, so I had my answer all prepared only to find out, that the issue had been answered.
The poster was able to get his faucet replaced, I hated to just totally waste the time that I spent to work on the answer so I posted it here.
Not sure if it will help anyone, but here it is for what it is worth.

If you think of repairing your faucet instead of replacing it, you would likely need the bran and model of the valve ,for sure the manufacturer to get a valve stem kit.

I tried one once for the bath and ended up replacing the whole faucet, as I could not make the kit work.

With a good torch ($20. some odd dollars - when I bought mine a few years back)
I believe they have kits with solder, flux (some type of solder paste that helps the solder adhere to the copper). So with that, and some sand paper (all new pipes and plumbing tubing /pipes need to be sanded as they have some type of clear coat on them to prevent corrosion when new) need to be sanded down with fine sand paper. If not sanded down you will not be able to get the pipe and fixture sweated together. once you have the pipe / fixture sanded and coated with a little pipe paste, resin, flux (whatever they call it for pipes)

Here is where I step out to the garage, dig for my BernzOmatic, kit.

Okay, its called flux.
My kit came with pipe brushes (helps the sanding, brush clean, then sand - that's what I do,
(I just sanded before getting the full kit with brushes - that works too).
The kit also comes with flux, sand paper and a tank full of propane, a pipe cutter and how to instructions!

Note: I have used a hack saw for cutting pipe, pipe cutter is better - they are about $5.00 US or less.

You don't want your flame too big or too small - just guess at it between the two.
Pipes - get them as dry as possible, turn water off, open you valves, especially the low level ones in the yard.

Use the inside part of the flame, which is a different color than the outside part.
I believe the center of the flame is blue or white, while the outside is red or yellow.
I am trying to remember back, has been a year or so since I have done any sweating (pipes that is).

What I do -

When I replace a yard faucet, or bath for that matter, I buy a sweat fitting (male hose adapter)
so I can screw the valve off, and screw a new one on the next time it needs replacing.
A matter worth noting, you can buy hose bibbs (faucets) with male or female threads,
so take note, if your faucet has male threads, you would need a female pipe adapter if you want to use the screw off / screw on method the for the next faucet replacement.

You will have to get to know some fittings, (if you don't already) measure your pipe/ tubing and perhaps speak with a knowledgeable plumbing person at your plumbing store.

When you get your pipe hot enough, you should be able to heat up the pipe on one side, and hold the solder about 180 degrees from the other side, and it shold flow to the side where the fire is.

When at your plumbing shop, you can buy an hose connector vacuum breaker end for your faucet (hose bibb whatever you want to call it) - it screws on the end, that is the type I have, and is the law for my state.

You can purchase faucets with built in vacuum breakers, either one will work, so your choice.

Outlook 2003 and 2007 sharing E-Mail contacts - requires an Exchange Server account -
Cannot be done if you have a POP or IMAP account.

To provide access to sub-folders of your contacts the person sharing the contacts
must grant "folder visible" permission to the root of the mailbox.
That would be where your name is by default.
Example "Mailbox - Your Name" - which would be your actual first name & last name.

Right Click on "Mailbox - Your Name", and choose "Properties".
Click on the permissions tab (or you can right click on the root "name" folder and
left click on "change sharing permissions" to go directly to the sharing permissions tab.

This is where you will need to click to make the folder visible, otherwise the
person or people you are sharing with will never see the shared contacts sub-folders but will be able to see your main contacts list - with the name of "contacts" and only that one.

You would then need permissions of at least Reviewer -- on the shared contact sub-folders, if you need the ones you are sharing with to edit the contacts you would need to choose publishing editor - on the permissions tab dialog box -
that will enable them to add contacts and remove contacts that you have created, or you can give them permissions of "editor" where you can add and remove all contacts and add / remove sub-folders as well.

The last step the users that the contacts are shared with must take
to be able to see your contacts in Outlook is - With Outlook open -
Click on Tools > E-mail Accounts > select the Advanced tab, add the mailbox name for the person sharing their account.

Viewing the shared contacts:

Now youi as the shared contacts 'viewer or editor' can now go to your contacts, click on
"Open Shared Contacts" below the folder list, enter the name of the person sharing their contacts and you should see their contact folders as well as your own contacts.

Cannot burn a CD in Windows XP.
When you try to copy files to the CD drive on your computer (and you know the CD (or DVD is blank) you may receive:
D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Go to the Drive letter in Windows Explorer (or My Computer) "right click" on your CD (or CD/DVD drive)
Click on Properties > Click on Recording; Click (ad check mark) by
"Enable CD recording on this drive".

If it was already checked You can try right clicking on the drive listed in Device Manager and clicking "Update Driver" Let Windows check the Internet.

If that does not work and you have Norton Anti Virus or Symantec Anti Virus - try the following:

Go to Symantec.com and search for "drive is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Microsoft's support site - may be helpful - warning - does involve editing the registry - use caution - at your own risk.

If none of those work - Go to your favorite Search Engine -
www.google.com
www.yahoo.com
etc.
Search for the drive not accessible burning CD (or DVD), enter the error if you receive any.

You may be able to remove (un-install) your CD device driver in Device Manager, then add it back. Do that at your own risk. Windows will find the device and re-add it.

Another CD issue that may arise but not related to burning:
If you are unable to play music on your computer especially from CD-RW's - you may receice error 39 - to possibly solve this follow the directions below:

Go to My computer > right click on your CD-ROM drive, click properties.

Click on the check by "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM Device" if it is enabled, to uncheck it (so it is diabled).
Re-boot your computer - and you should be able to re-enable it and have it continue to play music.

Set up USB Headphones in Windows Vista

With your USB Headphones plugged into an available USB port.
Right click the speaker icon in the system tray - by default located on the bottom right of your display.
Choose Playback Devices. Right click the headset and then click the Set as Default button.

If you play games on your computer, the game or other program that uses sounds may reset your default sound device back to your speakers - so you may have to periodically go back in and re-set up the default sound device.

Headphones that plug into your sound card via the round connections are sometimes more user friendly, (depending on your situation) but if you are using the headphones for a phone, you will have to use your microphone input and your speaker output.

If your computer is on the floor and you don't want to crawl in the back, AND you have
USB connectors in the front of your computer, then in that case, the USB headphones may be more user friendly for you in the physical realm, but you will
have to deal with enabling and disabling them and re-enabling them through Windows, if you play a game or some other program changes the default device.
Like many computer issues, your experience may vary.

There will always be room for improvement and Microsoft will have to continue working hard and smart to improve its products.

I have my gripes - I would like to see the old start menu / explorer navigation as an option that we can choose - the new
Windows Explorer may be good for some - but would like to see user choice - yes more user choice - I believe that is important
and will let users, geeks and casual users alike know that they are being thought of and have a choice in things OS related.

Macs OS X may some day be a contender - it is not there yet but is growing in popularity - not sure about the iPad?
Does not hit a spot for me - no built in USB, multi tasking, or camera and microphone.
OS X still does not have the ease of use that Windows has.
I can get around in OS X, but not as easily as in Windows, even though I have used both OSes for years.
I love Windows ability to hit the home button in notepad, or any text editor, Word, Wordpad, etc. when you hit the home button the cursor goes to the first of the line, not first of document like Mac, you can hit ctr. + home for that, and end goes to the end of the line, not end of the document, ctrl + end will do that. I think Windows should cost less and Office.
And speaking of choice, I would like to see a way to switch off the Office Ribbon - not a fan of it.
I know you can download non MS supported programs to do away with the Ribbon, and get the Classic Start Menu / Explorer functions but - I would like a Microsoft supported method to turn these features on and off. Thanks for all you do Chris.

It is a big issue when you cannot access the files through Windows Explorer, you know they are there but Windows says it cannot find them!

Back up your Outlook Contacts - or all of the data

PREVENTING A DATA LOSS - E-MAIL CONTACTS DATA DISASTER!

If you want to be sure and have a back up of your Outlook Contacts - as you do not want to lose the many contacts / friends / co-workers / Business Contacts - Here is a "How To" that walks you through backing them up > and how to open them.

You can open your .PST Files in another Outlook - by saving them anywhere on your computer and going to File > Open > Data File - from within Outlook.

ALSO: You can back up all of your Outlook items including E-Mail and subfolders for later use - the same way as you would back up your Contacts - more information about that at the bottom of this article.

*Note: Outlook 2003, 2007 - is different than Outlook Express, or Windows Mail - those programs do not use .PST files.

Go into your contacts Folder - then choose

File > Import / Export
Choose Export to a file
Choose type as "Personal Folder file" (.pst)

Choose what to Export "Contacts" - in this example.
Choose "include subfolders" if you have contacts files in subfolders of your main contacts folders.

By Default Outlook will create the file with a name of "Back.pst".
You can change that name - but you will have to do it twice - you will see what I mean when you save it - It will say Back - you change the name - then you will see "Back" or "Personal Folder" you can change the name twice and it will have the name of your choice.

When doing the export you can export to whatever location on your Hard Drive you want.
I would export to hard drive - then copy / paste to External Drive - will work better - less chance of corruption.

By Default Outlook 2003 and 2007 will direct your contacts to:
(XP)
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

(Vista)
C:\Users\(your user account name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Once you export the contacts .pst file - you can open it in Outlook to see if everything is there, by going to:
FIle > Open > Outlook Data File - Browse to wherever you exported it.
Click on it and choose open.

*Warning:
If you are exporting the files to an external drive (Hard Drive, or Thumb Drive, Flash Drive - tread carefully opening .pst files located on an external drive - in Outlook.

If you are opening it from the External Drive (Flash Stick) be sure and choose from within Outlook -
Go to Folders View - then Choose to "Close" the Contacts file - that is on your External Drive - otherwise -
Outlook will look for information on that location - and the location is not there - it can cause problems with Outlook.
So - as a general rule - better to open .pst files (contacts, E-Mail or whatever) - from the local Hard Drive.

FOR your OUTLOOK E-MAIL (instead of just the contacts) - you would export the same way as above - but instead of choosing "Contacts" - You would choose your Outlook profile name - usually your First and last name - Once again be sure and choose "include subfolders" or you will not get all of your E-Mail / Data backed up.

You can open the E-Mails / Folder hierarchy - by using File > Open > Outlook Data file as above - to see what you have backed up.
You are ready to copy your .pst file to a flash drive or external hard drive and your data is backed up!

In order to see videos on YouTube, or on many sites, for the fancy Flash animations to run will require Adobe's FlashPlayer. You will normally be prompted to install it if your computer does not have it, when you go to the sites that require or use it.
You can download FlashPlayer directly from the link below:

If you are prompted to download Adobe Flash Player - or for FireFox, Adobe FlashPlayer Active X control - and you have installed it - and re-installed it - then you will need the FlashPlayer removal tool - downloadable from Adobe - but sort of hard to find.

Enter the following into the search field - browser.sessionstore.interval

Increase the value, I increased my value to 65000 - so instead of
10000 10 seconds, it now checks for page updates about every minute and a half.

Warning:
If you break FireFox - it is at your risk - but you should be good to remove and re-insatll if broken.

This is a simple safe hack - so don't be afraid to jump into it - just use caution as with any change on your computer.

Win XP -Vista - What to do when Task Manager will not run, or MSConfig and Regedit

Some Computer Viruses prevent you from running Task Manager, and / or MSConfig, and Regedit which makes it much more difficult to fight the Virus / Malware on your computer.
If this happens to you, you can rename the executable file names (such as rename TaskMgr.exe to Tasker.exe etc.) Once renamed they you should be able to run them by going into their folder which by default would be C:\Windows\System32 - or by going to Start > Click Run > and type in Tasker ( or whatever you renamed Taskmgr.exe to ) using Taskmgr.exe in this example - this will work for the other tools as well.

You can find this information and download TaskMgr, MSConfig, and Regedit - that has already been renamed for you for Windows XP at the link below.

I have not made a penny online - Will I ever sort through the Scams?
These links are as much for me as anyone. I do not guarantee them, just collecting links to read now and maybe later - looking into making money online.
Have not yet. Most link to scams and pyramid schemes - I could see levels of power - all companies have that. But the company should do something, advertise, sell etc.
Sell something besides - how to make money books - some may be good - but many are the HOW some of people make money - I will show you how to sell how to make money, so you can sell this simple scheme of how to make money, and substance is missing - but the bottom line is people are suckered into schemes of selling how to make money - they are not making money - except - selling the alleged "How to make money" schemes.

Advertising is good - if I can find an honest way of doing it. Sure it will have its tricks, but for me - it would have to have something real to sell.
I would sell how to make money - if it was a real way of doing so - with out mega bucks to get you started. Which I have found, the cost of many of these how to make money schemes, really charge quite a bit of money - hidden costs, or costs not realized until you pay for your web hosting, and a host of other things, like getting a paypal account and get verified by giving them your credit card or bank account information, or getting your site to accept credit cards, which would lead to another site, that would be a further cost to you / us, whoever actually goes through with an idea / plan to make money selling or advertising onine.
That is my thoughts on the subject of making money online for today.
If I have other thoughts or links will post them here.

Also - beware of wording like "cash machine".
Unless you know of one that works, let me know and I will look into it.

This post has two bits of good information.

1) A good program for rating websites - as to how harmful they are for your computer -
is - WOT ( Web of Trust ).
You can download it for free from:

Currently there is a version for Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers.

WOT will show up on your screen when you click on a suspected bad website - instead of going directly to the site you were trying to go to - you will be prompted that the site may be bad, and you may continue to the website if you choose - that may be a bad idea to continue - and may defeat the purpose of having WOT in the first place or you can choose not to go to the site.

2) I found out about WOT from Major Geeks
A Great site for downloading safe programs, both free programs (freeware) and paid / commercial programs.
I am a member of majorgeeks forums and I submitted a post that referred to McAfee's siteadvisor - I was replied to that siteadvisor's info. is not as up to date as that of WOT.
So I believe that siteadvisor is good - at least to some degree, but WOT would be better.
If I find any better program for testing the safety of an Internet site I will post it here.

Tips for safer web browsing:

Use a sight or service like McAfee's site advisor to check download sights before downloading an application (computer program).

Use the "View a Site Report" text box to paste the Internet Address (URL) you want to check up on.

Use a web search through Google or your favorite search engine (search site) copy the link location of what you have searched for or the name of the site and the program name that you are downloading - to be informed about what you are about to download or install.

Recommended Antivirus programs: None of them are perfect -
none will block all viruses, malware, trojans etc.
